Principal’s Update – Week 5, Term 4

Nov 26, 20190 comments

As we pass the half-way mark of Term 4, our school community is certainly a hive of activity! Our R-5 students have had a great week of swimming at Marion Outdoor Pool, teams of 6/7 students have represented us in Beach Volley Ball at Glenelg, and a number of classes and groups have recently been on camp or excursion – including our Yr6/7 Canberra Trip in week 3 and our middle primary classes at Arbury Park. Our instrumental music students have also been hard at work on their end of year recital pieces under the expert tutelage of Ms Friebe.

Another example of Warradale students striving for excellence and demonstrating a growth mindset is the Children’s University program we were again involved in this year. I had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony with participants and their families on Thursday night at Adelaide University and I would like to thank our fabulous volunteer parent Samantha Wilks and Wellbeing Leader Amber Dohnt for their incredible work coordinating the program.

On Monday 11 November, our student leaders ran a wonderful Remembrance Day assembly to pay respect to those men and women who have served our country. The last post was played and a minute’s silence observed, with all present conducting themselves in a responsible and caring manner.

Staff are currently working through an extensive process to determine class structures and student placements for 2020. There are a number of complex considerations and data sets that inform the establishment of new classes and the aim is always to create the best possible learning conditions for our students. All of our 2020 classes will be mixed year level classes, with four Reception/Year 1 classes at the junior primary end to provide us with a fantastic opportunity to consolidate and develop our early years’ programs and processes.

With the festive season approaching, The Corner Church is preparing a Nativity Play for, which will be presented to R-5 students, 10am Wednesday of Week 8 in the Hall. The production will include performances from two of our students. Parents/caregivers are asked to return the note consenting to their child/children’s participation in this extracurricular activity.

Finally, a reminder that our first orientation visit for new 2020 Receptions is next Friday 22 November. New students and their families will be meeting in the Hall from 8.50am, before some class-based activities for students and an information session for parents/caregivers. Please keep an eye out for these people and help us welcome them into our school community.
