Student Leadership
Student Voice
At Greenwith Primary, students are empowered to be active agents in their own learning and participate in decision-making. Student Voice gives all students a voice and provides opportunities to share positive learning, ideas, and work together to tackle challenges and create change.
Each year, students in years F-6 are invited to self-nominate and present a short speech to their class explaining why they would make a great Student Voice representative. Class members each vote and 2 representatives are then elected for the year.
Student Voice roles and responsibilities include:
- Attend weekly meetings
- Be the voice of the school by actively listening to student, class and school issues
- Lead class meetings and report back to Student Voice
- Share information from class meetings at Student Voice meetings
- Plan and organise an annual fundraising day for a selected charity.
Kids in Community (KiC)
All Middle School students are actively involved in providing services intended to benefit the school community. These opportunities are designed to enhance positive, productive involvement in our school and develop leadership skills while integrating our school values. KiC hours are collected through involvement in many activities and responsibilities including:
- Working in the canteen
- Supporting junior primary students
- Peer support
- School crossing duty
- Whole school recycling
Each year at Graduation, a year 6 student is recognised for their outstanding contribution to the KiC program with an award.
Play at Lunchtime Support
Play at Lunchtime Support (PALs) is a program that aims to develop character skills in students by engaging them as leaders in an organised lunchtime program. Students in years 5 and 6 are trained to run a structured lunchtime play program for younger children. Older students gain leadership skills and build self-esteem while younger students have fun in a safe, friendly schoolyard environment.
Year 6 Student Leaders
Providing opportunities for students to take on civic responsibilities and develop leadership skills is an important part of our middle years program. Year 5 students are invited to apply to be a Student Leader in year 6 each year.
Under the guidance of the Assistant Principal, responsibilities include:
- Supporting the setup and coordination of whole school assemblies, events and fundraising activities
- Leading Sports Day teams
- Presenting reports at Governing Council meetings
- Supporting Early Years students in the yard
- Acting as a tour guide for visitors to the school
- Hosting the Year 6 Graduation
